The transition from pub grub lounge to what is now The Weir last September is a welcome one. It is incorporated in to what was the Ashford House pub and the bar is still there to have a few drinks, but the ambience created with the new decor makes for a pleasurable night out for couples or family group meals. We had just a main course each of homemade burger with fries and side salad, and from the blackboard, the special of hake with chorizo sausage on a bed of small baby roasted potatoes. Both dishes were superb along with an Australian Grant Bruge shiraz at just €23. The shared chocolate cake and ice-cream dessert plus coffees for two brought our total to €70, which might be a bit more than you would like to spend, but its very much value for money. Service and attention from staff just excellent too.

Good deal from a menupages.ie site. The Restaurant is beside Ashford House. Big room with cosy booths and a lovely fire. Lots of options on the Menu - roasts, stews and pizza. I personally find that 3 courses is to much and it would be lovely if deals were offered with just main course and coffee but it is great value and is always busy which gives it a good buzz. Enjoy

Got my girlfriend the Menupages deal for the weir for valentines. 4 courses for 35 euro I think. It was a great deal and we had a lovely time. The restaurant was lovely. Had an open fire. The waitress couldn’t have been nicer. She really made our visit exceptional. We asked her opinion on what to order and she personally loved all the food on the menu which is a great sign when you sitting in a restaurant. We ordered the Honey Roasted Pear, Haloumi Cheese and Walnut Salad and Spicy Pan Fried Crab Cake to start with. Both Lovely and quiet different. Then we ordered the Monkfish and a Jalapeno Pizza. We shared all the food. More fun that way. The pizza was the nicest I have tasted in a long time. Light, fresh with Buffalo Mozzarella. I'm not a fan of monk fish in general but my partner liked it. So that was all wonderful but the best part of the meal was for dessert!! Belgian Chocolate Biscuit Cake!! Wow!! If you like chocolate you will love this. I got the sticky toffee pudding. Was only ok. I will definitely return soon for a pizza and the biscuit cake VERY very soon. Food and service was top notch.

We decided to give this restaurant a try when we got the chance of a great deal from a menupages.ie site. The Restaurant is attached to the Ashford House and is positioned around the lounge bar. The space is a big and cavernous with high ceilings which means noise reverberates around and makes it a little noisy - I docked half a star for this. We were seated in a cosy booth which we liked but might be too isolating for others. The menu offered lots of choice with a blackboard list of specials - there was also a good cocktail menu with good value cocktails 6 euro for alcohol ones and 5 euro for non alcohol - we couldn't resist (much to the delight of our waitress!). There was a great wine selection too. I chose the crab cake which was gorgeous followed by monk fish done in a tomato based sauce with roasted vegetable cassoulet served with lemon rice which tasted divine! Hubby had the tomato and basil soup which was very good followed by hake served with puy lentils on a celeriac mash base (this unfortunately tasted only of potato - but good nonetheless), we opted for the whoopee desert (not so nice - hard stale tasting sponge with a strawberry fondant innard - nothing like the American frothy confection I was expecting! and the sticky toffee pudding (which had a condensed milk after-taste) - another half star docked. We had some very good fresh brewed coffee. Overall I really enjoyed dining here and thought the food with the exception of dessert was lovely, the wait staff were very pleasant and attentive. One other point I did not like was the situation of the toilets - they must be very close to a smoking zone as the stench of cigarettes as you enter them was awful.

I booked a meal at the weir for a romantic night out with my husband as it does advertise that it is ideal for a romantic night out. I would not say it is for a romantic night out as there is a bar in there which there were a lot of people at. The tables were very close together. Having said that the food was beautiful. I had the chirozo and goats cheese salad and chicken for main and it was beautiful. The service was excellent. I would definately go back but maybe not for a romantic night out.
